Dressage Clinic & Ride Review with "L" judge Kathryn Hitzig Sutton

Riders have the option of doing a lesson or dressage test review. Choose a half hour or hour session.

RIDE REVIEW DESCRIPTION: Riders will ride their test of choice with the judge; there will be a scribe to make notes and it will be scored. The judge will then spend the remainder of their time working with you on areas that could be improved (this is the review part). You then have the option to ride the test again to put her recommendations into action. The second test will also be scored and you will receive back your test(s). You may ride more than one test and bring more than one horse. The same horse may also have more than one rider.

There are two large size outdoor sand arenas designated for warm-up, and an arena for lungeing.

COST: $60 half hour lesson or review. $110 an hour lesson or review

CLOSING DATE IS Sunday, April 13th

ABOUT the JUDGE: Kathryn is a United States Dressage Federation Bronze Medalist, L Graduate with Distinction (judge), and 4th level dressage competitor. Additionally, Katie was formerly a professional International Ski Racer, having competed in two World Championships and multiple World Cups. In her free time, Katie enjoys riding/showing her horses, judging, skiing, and traveling.

RULES:
o Not a USEA, USDF, or USEA Sanctioned event but will use rules as a guideline
o Show attire preferred but not required
o Please include a current negative coggins with entry
o ALL RIDERS must wear an ASTM approved helmet with chinstrap attached while riding on the grounds

o Horses that kick MUST have red ribbons in the tail. Red ribbon will be available at Secretary’s booth

PLACINGS: Ribbons will be awarded for each test based on merit scores, >65%: Blue, 64-60%: Red, 55-60%: Yellow, 50-55%: white <50%: Pink

WATER: Is available on grounds

FOOD: Free potluck breakfast and lunch in viewing room. Bring something to share if you wish

ARENA: All lower level tests will be ridden in a sand indoor arena. All others will be in a large size outdoor sand arena

Riders will trailer off farm to participate in a longer pleasure trail ride. This new 2-day camp is available with limited space. Students will learn trailer safety. Riders can bring their own horse or they can use a farm horse

if they are currently taking lessons. Riders must be comfortable cantering safely and in control in a group on a trail. Students will ride once or twice, rain or shine!

Beginner Horsemanship Week

10:00AM-5:00PM Full Day OR 10AM-2PM Half Day Beginner+ Ages 5+ BEGINNER & LEADLINE

Intro to Horsemanship Week. This week is designed to provide the most one on one attention for our beginners and young campers. Students above beginner level are placed in a more advanced riding lesson group that is tailored to their riding ability.

First time riders and youngsters will learn basic safety around horses, and they will learn how to properly groom their horse and tack-up. Beginning students will also learn how to lead their horse, and how to mount or dismount. Riding may take place in the ring or on the trail. Parents are welcome to stay and watch throughout the day.

Beginners who have ridden before will work on continuing their skills in the walk and the trot. They may spend their riding time in the ring or on the trail. Emphasis will be placed on developing safe skills riding and working with horses. This week will include mounted games and beginning trail riding.

Dressage Camp - 3 Day

This is an intensive three-day dressage camp that will focus on a rider's effective communication and training of the horse. During this week, students learn about the basics and importance of dressage in their everyday riding. They will learn about correct bending and lateral work through demonstration and mounted instruction.

Riders will receive tips on improving one's test scores. Riders will work on improving their position under saddle on the lunge line. In years past, riders took a field trip to see upper-level riders demonstrate movements and discuss training.

This is a great camp for advanced young riders, teens or adults.

Eventing Camp

10:00AM-5:00PM Novice+ Ages 10 +JUMP & EVENTING WEEK

During this week, students receive instruction in dressage, trail, and stadium jumping. Emphasis will be placed on position, correct technique, and jump safety. Those new to jumping will begin over ground poles. The focus will be on developing a balanced seat while jumping. Students will also learn the proper terminology associated with jumping. Students may be asked to work without stirrups or reins over fences or on the flat.

More advanced students will be challenged with lateral exercises and jump courses. Jumping may take place in the ring, on the trail, or over our wide array of different cross-country fences. This is an excellent week for event riders to school over a variety of different fences. Trail and cross-country lessons will include knowledge on properly conditioning your horse. Riders wishing to ride cross country should have an approved safety jumping vest. Those attending this session should be capable of controlling their horse in the walk and trot and should be comfortable cantering.

One daily mounted lesson is focused on Gymkhana; the second mounted lesson is focused on drill team riding. Campers can put on a fun musical drill team performance on the last day of camp (Friday Evening)!

Novice+ Trail Camp

Campers will spend most of their time on the trails surrounding the farm. They will ride once in the ring and a second time on the trail (weather permitting). Students will learn trail safety and trail etiquette. Students will be broken into two riding groups; novice and more advanced students.

Novice and advanced riders, are expected to be capable with less assistance and walk and trot on the trail. All riders participating in this camp should be capable of cantering in the arena. All riders will be expected to groom, tack up independently with some assistance. They will learn more about horse care during this week.

2 day Adult Labor Day Camp

10:00AM-5:00PM Beginner+ Ages 18 +ADULT CAMP

Adults can come to camp too! This camp is over Labor Day weekend to allow adults that work the opportunity to participate in a few days of camp fun. This camp is a fun two days packed with activities under saddle and on the ground. This week is great for the adult rider that just wants to have fun and expand their horsemanship knowledge. The instructors work one-on-one with each student to help each rider set their own goals and improve.

Participants in the past formed a drill team, rode bareback, did ground work with their horse, learned basic vet care and first aid, went on a leisure trail ride, did a lesson on the lunge to improve their position and balance, and participated in mounted games.

Riders are welcome to bring their own horse or use a farm horse. There is no additional fee for stabling.

Riders are welcome to bring a pot luck lunch!

  • Vests are not required but recommended for all stadium jumping. Required for any cross country schooling.

  • Water is available on grounds

  • All tests will be ridden in an indoor, small size dressage arena

  • Dressage and stadium times posted Friday before show via email

  • USDF dressage test can be obtained at usdf.org. All USEA eventing tests can be obtained at useventing.com.

  • Refunds will only be given to riders who cancel before the closing date. In the event of show cancellation, no refunds will be given; we will try to host event on a different date.

Halloween Gymkhana Horse Show 2024

Join Contry Hill Farm for our most anticipated event of the year - the Halloween Horse Show!

Costume, jumping, barrels, pairs classes. Bring a friend! Easy parking, great warm-up, and footing! friendly family atmosphere. Can't ride? Join the fun and volunteer. We will offer a fun noodle pool horse class for all to participate.

  1. ALL RIDERS must wear an ASTM approved helmet with chinstrap attached while riding on the grounds.

  2. Current Coggins test is required within 12 months for all horses.

  3. Management reserves the right to combine or cancel classes with insufficient entries (fewer than 3, management will announce if they have done so the day of the show).

  4. Any classes may be divided or combined as management deems fit, for reasons of safety. Classes will be divided if there are more than 12 entries or at the judge’s discretion.

  5. Abuse of any animal will be cause for dismissal from the show.

  6. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the grounds.

  7. There is no formal dress code, however please be neat as a courtesy to your judge. Boots with a heel and an ASTM approved helmet are required for all riders, regardless of age. All persons handling horses must be wearing closed-toe footwear.

  8. The Judge(s)’s decision is FINAL. Any questions concerning rules, decisions of the judge and/or concerns

  9. Questions regarding the class schedule should be directed to the show manager.

  10. No refunds given for scratched classes. Individual cases will be considered as the discretion of show management.

  11. You must send a check with your entry to constitute a pre-entry. Entries without payment will be charged post-entry amounts.

Western & Hunter Jumper Schooling Show 2024

A quiet atmosphere with an emphasis on safety and fun. Easy inviting jump courses, good footing, and Classes for Adults and kids. Just over the Mass border, southern NH.

Classes: Lead line - 2’3” classes. 1-6th ribbons, reserve, and high point for each division.

Facility: 4 arenas to school in! Indoor and 3 outdoor sand arenas. Round pen for lungeing. Fenced-in arenas.

Semi-formal attire. English: Tan or beige breeches, helmet, and a polo. Show shirt and coat optional. Western: Jeans, helmet, and polo. Chaps and show clothes are optional, and helmets are required. 

The food booth will be open for lunch so come hungry!


Pre-entry for all classes must be received by September 28th and classes are $15 each. Check MUST accompany the registration form for the pre-entry fee. An additional post-entry fee of $10 for all entries received after September 28th.

Riders cannot cross-enter divisions. Classes may be split at the judge’s discretion. Adults (Sr.) and juniors (Jr.) may ride in the same class but be pinned separately. Adults are riders over the age of 21. 


Class Descriptions

Lead line Division: this is for riders who have never competed in a walk-trot division. Those in lead line are responsible for arranging with their instructor for their own handler/helper. 

Walk Trot Division:Rider or horse must not have competed in a canter class before 

Beginning Canter Division: Rider or horse must not have competed in a higher division before. Riders will be asked to canter one at a time. Jump courses may be ridden at the trot. 

Green Division This division is open to inexperienced horses 

Open Division This division is offered for western horses and riders capable of Walk jog and lope 

Novice Division: This division is for riders who are comfortable cantering in a group. 

Warm up over fences: Riders get to practice over the fences prior to their classes 

Pleasure: To be judged on the horse and their behavior and suitability in the ring. 

Jumper: To be judged on speed. Penalties are given for knock downs or refusals. Riders get a second round called the “Jump off” if they jump clean.

4-H Camp Middlesex Horse Lovers Week

Camp Middlesex has partnered with Contry Hill Farm to offer campers beginner riding lessons.

For an additional fee, 4-H campers will be transported to Contry Hill Farm Monday – Friday and have a 30-minute mounted lesson and a 30-minute horsemanship lesson. Horsemanship topics include safety, horse breeds, stall cleaning and feeding, and parts of the saddle and bridle. Mounted topics include mounting/dismounting, control, and steering, and how to post at the walk.

Dressage Clinic with Remmy Bron-van Dam

Remmy will be here to teach dressage riding and driving lessons.

Individual lessons, semi-private, or all day viewers are welcome.


Remmy is a certified instructor and successful competitor, trainer and judge in Holland. She trained with an instructor in the Spanish Riding School and many other trainers in Europe. She considers her style of training to be a collaborative of the German and Dutch style of dressage training.


Currently along with teaching students she is competing driving a clients Friesian mare, ‘Wimke’ at the ZZ level and competing her Welsh pony gelding, ‘Cosmo’ at Z level driving. Upon her return to Holland he will be moving up to the ZZ level. Many of her riding students are competing in the Championships as well.

Come check out Harmony Horsemanship 101. Would you like to know how to create a “Yes” horse? Would you like to know how to build trust and partnership with your horse so you can conquer challenges you never thought possible?

We will learn all the six Calm Connection Exercises as well as the ABC’s of Harmony Horsemanship (both ridden and under saddle). Are you not riding your horse at this point? No problem we can bring the in-hand exercises to the next level instead of riding! Using Lindsey Partridge’s Harmony Horsemanship techniques, we will learn the foundation of all things Harmony Horsemanship!

Missed the first clinic? Enjoyed the last one and want to get a second day? Join us for a fun-filled day!

Stalls are provided for the day for truck-ins, school horses available for farm students or for nonstudents by request/availability, and a potluck lunch.  Bring a rope halter, long lead, dressage whip, treats, and a pouch to hold treats in.

  • $150 day - includes 2 lessons, am and pm session. Adult and junior group. Young horses welcome!

  • $25 audit fee (kids to stay for the day and watch without parents). $10 for adults or kids with a parent. 

We need a minimum of 7 participants and have up to 12 spaces available! 

Schedule for the day:
8-9 Arrive, horses trailering in can be parked and assigned stalls. 
9-10 Intros / unmounted 
10-11:30 - group 1
11:30- 1 -group 2
1-1:30 lunch

Ride Review with “L” Judge Kathryn Hitzig

All entries must be received by April 14th.

Riders will ride their test of choice with the judge; there will be a scribe to make notes and it will be scored. The judge will then spend the next 15-20 minutes working with you on areas that could be improved (this is the review part). Riders have the choice of riding the review or the test first. You may ride more than one test and bring more than one horse. The same horse may also have more than one rider. There are two large size outdoor sand arenas designated for warm-up, and an arena for lungeing.

Costs

  • $60 per test for a half hour review

  • $110 for an hour review

  • $10 lesson horse use for farm students

Halloween Gymkhana Horse Show

Join Contry Hill Farm for our most anticipated event of the year - the Halloween Horse Show!

Costume, jumping, barrels, pairs classes. Bring a friend! Easy parking, great warm up and footing! friendly family atmosphere. Can't ride? Join the fun and volunteer. We will be offering a fun noodle pool horse class for all to participate.

  1. ALL RIDERS must wear an ASTM approved helmet with chinstrap attached while riding on the grounds.

  2. Current Coggins test is required within 12 months for all horses.

  3. Management reserves the right to combine or cancel classes with insufficient entries (fewer than 3, management will announce if they have done so the day of the show).

  4. Any classes may be divided or combined as management deems fit, for reasons of safety. Classes will be divided if there are more than 12 entries or at the judge’s discretion.

  5. Abuse of any animal will be cause for dismissal from the show.

  6. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the grounds.

  7. There is no formal dress code, however please be neat as a courtesy to your judge. Boots with a heel and an ASTM approved helmet are required for all riders, regardless of age. All persons handling horses must be wearing closed-toe footwear.

  8. The Judge(s)’s decision is FINAL. Any questions concerning rules, decisions of the judge and/or concerns

  9. Questions regarding the class schedule should be directed to the show manager.

  10. No refunds given for scratched classes. Individual cases will be considered as the discretion of show management.

  11. You must send a check with your entry to constitute a pre-entry. Entries without payment will be charged post-entry amounts.

Hunter Jumper Schooling Show

A quiet atmosphere with an emphasis on safety and fun. Easy inviting jump courses, good footing, and Classes for Adults and kids. Just over the Mass border, southern NH.

Classes: Lead line - 2’3” classes. 1-6th ribbons, reserve, and high point for each division.

Facility: 4 arenas to school in! Indoor and 3 outdoor sand arenas. Round pen for lungeing. Fenced-in arenas.

 Semi-formal attire. English: Tan or beige breeches, helmet, and a polo. Show shirt and coat optional. Western: Jeans, helmet, and polo. Chaps and show clothes are optional, and helmets are required. 

The food booth will be open for lunch so come hungry!


Pre-entry for all classes must be received by Saturday, September 23rd and classes are $15 each. Check MUST accompany the registration form for the pre-entry fee. An additional post-entry fee of $10 for all entries received after Saturday, September 23rd.

Riders cannot cross-enter divisions. Classes may be split at the judge’s discretion. Adults (Sr.) and juniors (Jr.) may ride in the same class but be pinned separately. Adults are riders over the age of 21. 


Class Descriptions

Lead line Division: this is for riders who have never competed in a walk-trot division. Those in lead line are responsible for arranging with their instructor for their own handler/helper. 

Walk Trot Division:Rider or horse must not have competed in a canter class before 

Beginning Canter Division: Rider or horse must not have competed in a higher division before. Riders will be asked to canter one at a time. Jump courses may be ridden at the trot. 

Green Division This division is open to inexperienced horses 

Open Division This division is offered for western horses and riders capable of Walk jog and lope 

Novice Division: This division is for riders who are comfortable cantering in a group. 

Warm up over fences: Riders get to practice over the fences prior to their classes 

Pleasure: To be judged on the horse and their behavior and suitability in the ring. 

Jumper: To be judged on speed. Penalties are given for knock downs or refusals. Riders get a second round called the “Jump off” if they jump clean.

End of the Summer Western & Hunter Seat Horse Show

Equitation, Pleasure, and Jumper Classes - Pre-entry must be received by Saturday, September, 24th

Download the class listing to view option and descriptions. The registration and payment can be made out to Contry Hill Farm and mailed to Contry Hill Farm LLC. 271 Reed Road, Mason, NH 03048. Or submit your form below and pay online.

Classes are $15 each. 3 Division Classes are $35. 5 Division Classes are $65. Warm Up Rounds $10.

A $10 post entry fee will be charged for all entries not received by Saturday, September 24th, proceeding the show.

Outdoor Arena – 9:00am (Indoors if raining). High Point and Reserve Champion for Divisions.

Semi-formal attire: English: Tan or beige breeches, helmet and a polo. Show shirt and coat optional. Western: Jeans, helmet and polo. Chaps and show clothes optional, helmets required.

Food booth will be open for lunch, come hungry!!

Rules & Fees:

  1. ALL RIDERS must wear an ASTM approved helmet with chinstrap attached while riding on the grounds.

  2. Current Coggins test is required within 12 months for all horses.

  3. Management reserves the right to combine or cancel classes with insufficient entries (fewer than 3, management will announce if they have done so the day of the show).

  4. Any classes may be divided or combined as management deems fit, for reasons of safety. Classes will be divided if there are more than 12 entries or at the judge’s discretion.

  5. Abuse of any animal will be cause for dismissal from the show.

  6. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the grounds.

  7. There is no formal dress code, however please be neat as a courtesy to your judge. Boots with a heel and an ASTM approved helmet are required for all riders, regardless of age. All persons handling horses must be wearing closed-toe footwear.

  8. The Judge(s)’s decision is FINAL. Any questions concerning rules, decisions of the judge and/or concerns regarding the class schedule should be directed to the show manager
